Jackson

                                                                             16"x12"

                                                                         Oil on Linen

So I tried my luck at another portrait of Jackson, this is taken from a photo about 1+ year later of Jackson.  This was also done on a stretched linen.  I had never used linen before, but now I know why it is rated so highly.  I love it!

This is part of a series of small bird paintings.  I love birds and these were just fun little paintings.  Stay tuned, there are more to come.

Jackson

                                                                                10"x 8"

                                                                          Oil on Panel

I signed up for my first online class a few months ago, knowing I'd have access to the class whenever it fit into my schedule.  So, after waiting for a time when I had a full day to devote to it, I gave it a try this past week.  It was totally out of my comfort zone since it was done ala prima (which means wet on wet) and it also means painting fast and that is something I do not do.  However, at the end of the day this is the results of my first ala prima portrait painting of my grandson.  I was very pleased with this results.

Lynchburg Art Festival

It's time again for the Lynchburg Art Festival.  Always a great art event, don't miss it; it's been two years and the artists' have had lots of time to create art for this show!!  Should be better than ever.

                                                                11"x14" Oil on Canvas

This barn is just one of the barns where a friend took several of us to plein air paint. There was a painting in every direction.  The mountain in the distance in Poor Mountain.  I hope to get to see it in the fall.

This is from photos I took at this historic home in Moneta, VA.  It was built in the 1830's.  I'm sure there are some pretty interesting stories if those walls could talk!

These old red barns just draw me to paint them.  There is just so much character to them.

That Takes the Cake

                                                                                5"x7"

                                                                         Oil on Canvas

I painted this little painting as my part of the gift from the artists' at ArtVisions Gallery for Chris Genna, the owner of CJ's Coffee and Sandwich Shop at Smith Mountain Lake.  Chris has always been so kind and generous to our group and allowed us to show our artwork at his eatery.

Four O'clock Tea

                                                                   10"x10"

                                                     Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas

This was another still life struggle; I think that will be enough of those for awhile.  Looking forward to getting back to landscapes and maybe an animal or two.

"Tea Time"

9"x12"

Oil on Canvas Board

Doing a still life is totally out of my comfort zone, but it was a challenge piece for ArtVisions Gallery.  I have been trying to loosen my painting style, and doing a still life certainly does not allow me to do that.  But I am finding I'm starting to enjoy doing still life paintings.

Laid Back

14"x11"
Oil on Canvas

The grace and beauty of these large birds just draw me to paint them.  It seems like they enjoy posing in so many beautiful poses and that huge wing span makes them so beautiful.
