Snow Day

Snow Day
10"x8" Oil on Canvas

This time of year always seems to come around much too quickly.  But as the year ends I want to thank everyone for your encouragement and support of my artwork.  It has been another fun year painting and learning.

Warmest wishes for a peaceful and joyous Christmas and all the best in the New Year.

Yard Boss and His Ladies

SOLD
"Yard Boss and His Ladies"
8"x16" Oil on Canvas

The shadows on the snow was what caught my eye for this painting.  It always is so interesting to me to see all the colors that are reflected in snow; yet we always think of snow as being white.

Winter Morning

"Winter Morning"
8"x16" Oil on Canvas

While this is not a specific farm from my childhood, it is so typical of the landscape of my youth.  I still love a morning walk in a fresh blanket of snow.  Snow scenes are one of my favorite subjects to paint.

Paddlers

8"x10"
Oil on Archival Board

This is a painting of my granddaughter and a dear friend and fellow artist teaching her to kayak.  This was a fun painting with all the vibrant colors of the kayaks.  And, this is the end of my water series.  I'm thinking snow for my next series, I just love painting snow.

First Cast

11"x14"
Oil on Canvas
SOLD
This is my third painting in my water series paintings.  I just had to try and capture the light and reflections of the fall colors.  It was a really fun painting to paint.  I'm finding a little more time to paint now that school is back in session.  I'm not very disciplined in the summer to set aside time each day to paint.

Room For One More

8"x16"
Oil on Canvas

Bar Harbor, Maine, one of my favorite vacation spots.  This is a site that you can see at the end of the day when the lobster fishermen come into the town pier.  I love watching them, you are sure the dock cannot accommodate another boat, but in comes another one and they just nose that boat in between two other boats and tie it up

Storm Clouds Over Owasco Lake

8"x10"
 Oil on Archival Board

Owasco Lake (one of the Fingers Lakes in NY State) is an area I have always loved.  My family and I vacationed there this summer and even though the weather was cool and sometimes rainy, it was a wonderful getaway.  This is a little painting I did on one of those stormy days.  It was mostly done with a palette knife

This is a scene that can be seen on most any little trip here is the Southwest Virginia Blue Ridge Mountains or Upstate New York, where I am from.  I just love passing by them and the farmers at work in the fields.

My Happy Place

14"x11"
Oil on Canvas

This is a painting of my granddaughter,  Hannah from a photo taken several years ago.  We spent many hours at the swing in the back yard and the dress she is wearing was a flower girl dress that brought Hannah many hours of fun starting with Halloween and lasting many years.  Lots of fond memories and lots of fun to paint.

Morning Light

8"x8"
Oil on Aluminum Panel

This was a first for me, painting on aluminum.  A friend gave me the panel to see how I liked painting on it; I decided to use a palette knife thinking the paint would adhere better on such a smooth surface.  I loved doing it, the paint adhered very well.  Since the weather is now more springlike, this will be the last of winter paintings for a while.

Yes, I'm Looking at You!

14"x11"
Oil on Panel

This was a fun palette knife painting; the colors in an owl and his eyes made him an irresistible subject.

Talking It Over

8"x10"
Oil on Panel

Since there is an abundance of deer in the community where I live, I decided to try and paint them.  They were so much fun to paint, I  just might try to do another painting of them.

Warmed by the Sun

SOLD
5"x7"
Oil on Canvas

The warm springlike weather we are having here in Virginia has made me want to paint some springtime paintings.  Although it's not quite time for the baby lambs to be born, it will be very soon.  Since I live close to the Booker T. Washington National Park, I always have to make a trip there to check out the new lambs and get some photos if they are close by.

Base Hit

10"x8"
Oil on Gessobord

Well I can't say my first painting of the year was inspired by the weather here in Virginia since I am snowed in with our first snow of the winter season.  However, there is plenty of time for the snow to inspire me because it usually takes days before our road gets plowed :-(  Anyway, spring training is only a little more than a month away so I am ready for it with a painting!
