This is a little painting I did at a plein air painting class taught by Steve Doherty at Canandaigua Lake, NY (one of the Finger Lakes).  This was the first class I had taken doing plein air and I was definitely out of my comfort zone; but was quite pleased with the results of my first plein air painting.  While it is still a very big challenge to me, I do really enjoy being outside painting.

Lynchburg Art Festival - Saturday, September 17

It's time again for the Lynchburg Art Festival at EC Glass High School in Lynchburg.  It starts at 10 AM and ends at 4 PM.  This year is one of the largest with 142 artists showing their work.  It's one of the nicest shows in the area.  Hope to see you there, love seeing previous attendees and meeting new ones.

The Road to the Farm

The Blue Ridge Mountains and the farms that are in the valleys provide a bounty of subject matter to paint.  This one was a challenge with all the spring greens.

This is a view from one of my favorite places to vacation, Cadillac Mountain in Bar Harbour, Maine. The views are fantastic, whether from the top of the mountain or from the rocky cliffs that overlook the Atlantic Ocean.

This is LaFox,  a cat I have painted a couple of times before, he is so much fun to paint; the eyes especially; he was so focused on watching the birds.   This one is a commission for a dear friend of mine.

Sonenberg Gardens

This is a plein air painting I did at Sonenberg Gardens while at beautiful Canandaigua Lake in New York State.  It was done at a plein air workshop taught by Steven Doherty, editor of Plein Air Magazine.  It was a great workshop and I was totally out of my comfort zone; but I have so wanted to be a plein air painter.  Now I know I have a lot to learn and a long way to go; but it sure was fun.  

View From Above (Roanoke River)

This is a painting of the Roanoke River portion of Smith Mountain Lake.  I love to find different views of SML and when I spotted this view while out for a ride one day, I couldn't resist painting it.  This lake has such an irregular shape with many coves; it always surprises me when I find an area that I don't expect to see the lake and there it is.

Being brought up on a farm this is a familiar sight.  Guess it's true you can't take the farm out of the girl:)  But it was fun to paint,  as are most of the animals I do.

This is a busy time of year for these little blue birds.  Our bird houses are a busy place with nest building and guarding the nest; soon we'll be hearing the sounds of baby birds.

This is Cassie, a Maine Coon Cat.  She was a commission for a very dear friend of mine.  I did the painting a couple months ago, but because it was a gift I couldn't post it.  I am so thankful for the opportunity to do this painting.  That long fluffy hair and colorful fur was so much fun to paint.

After the Storm

I can almost feel and smell the freshness of the air after a storm has passed through; the sun always seems so much brighter when part of the sky is still heavy with storm clouds.  I couldn't resist painting this with those wonderful cast shadows of the trees and sun hitting the stone buildings.

Another fun animal, giraffe's show so much character and expression; especially those big brown eyes.  They have become one of my favorite animals to paint.  I'm sure Belle won't be the last! :)

Last Days of Autumn

Even the last days of autumn are beautiful in Virginia.  The day I took this photo was such a gloomy day until you looked at the last of the colors on the trees.  The golds and oranges just glowed against the gray skies.  This is a view of Sharp Top Mountain from the Peaks of Otter Lodge in Bedford.

Happy New Year everyone; I hope everyone has a healthy and happy 2016.  Whenever I don't know what to paint a bird or other animal becomes the next painting.  They are just a fun and relaxing subject.
